Maildot

Privacy policy

Effective October 20, 2026

Maildot reads one number from your Gmail account: the unread count of your Inbox. It never reads your messages, and it does not send your data to us or to anyone else.

This policy covers the Maildot app for macOS (“the app”) and this website. Questions go to support@getmaildot.xyz.

Google user data the app accesses

When you select Connect Gmail, you sign in with Google. The app requests these permissions:

PermissionWhat the app uses it for
gmail.labelsTo read the unread message count of your Inbox label. This is the only Gmail request the app makes.
Basic profile and email addressTo sign you in and show which Google account is connected.

The app does not request, download or store the senders, recipients, subject lines, previews, bodies or attachments of your messages. The gmail.labels permission does not give access to them. Google's permission also allows label changes. The app never creates, edits or deletes labels.

How the app uses Google user data

The app uses the Inbox unread count only to show a number on its Dock icon and in its window. It uses your email address only to show which account is connected. The app does not use Google user data for advertising, profiling, analytics or training of AI or machine-learning models.

Where the data is stored

The app has no server. Your data does not go to us. The app communicates only with Google: with Google's sign-in service, and with the Gmail API at gmail.googleapis.com.

Sharing

We do not sell, transfer or share Google user data with anyone. We cannot, because the data never leaves your Mac except in your own requests to Google.

Limited Use

Maildot’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Browser tabs

When you click the Dock icon and your default browser is Brave or Google Chrome, the app asks macOS for permission to control that browser. With your permission, the app asks the browser to find a tab whose address contains mail.google.com and switch to it. The browser does this check. The app does not collect, store or send your tab addresses or browsing history. If you do not give permission, the app opens Gmail in a new tab. You can change this permission in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Automation.

Deleting your data and revoking access

We hold no copy of your data, so there is nothing for us to delete on our side.

This website

This website does not use cookies, analytics or tracking, and it loads no third-party scripts or fonts. Our hosting provider, Amazon Web Services, processes standard technical data such as IP addresses to deliver the pages and protect against abuse.

Children

Maildot is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Maildot handles data, we will update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect. If a change needs a broader Google permission, the app will ask you to approve it again.
